JANE LEE HOOKER-"Rollin"

Hard rockin blues is a hell of a recipe for a good album when the band is tight and groovy. JLH are that and far more. With singer Dana Athens driving the band like a female Paul Rodgers/Crissie Hydne hybrid , they play a firm, sturdy hard rock based on the great US/British tradition of 70s Hard rock. Sexy, attractive and dangerous it enters with the slow burner "Lucky" and keeps up for the next half an hour without missing a heartbeat.

JLH are no new kid on the block. They deserve your respect. They earn it with some dirty guitar licks and wrecking ball rhythmic parts. Blues never sound more attractive and among the 70s revivalist JLH comes as one of the best. More blues than hard rock, they let Chicago and Delta blues take over especially at the guitar parts. This is an album that could easily get a release for GRAVEYARD records as artists like Lopez,Spinner, THE SHINING and more are in the same vein. Where blues and hard rock unite you find not another HEART clone but a female (4/5) rock band with more balls than a lot of their male comrades. "Drive' has a more FM feeling with the piano adding some color all over, showing their more BIG BROTHER and the HOLDING COMPANY side with some echoes of BB KING at the guitar melodies.THye know how to create a rock n roll tune and songs like "Jericho" are the proof.

More 70s ,laid back with some southern flavor is "Weary bones" a bit like ALLMAN jamming . The band members are all seasoned musicians in various Hard rock, punk, metal bands but ehre they let their hair down and indulge themselves and their listeners to some in your face blus oriented hard rock with some classic rock paintings and some new wave touches as at "All good things" where THE PRETENDERS gets in forefront."Mercy, mercy, mercy" has a touch of Mr Jagger and co but still rocks in its own original way."White gold' is a countrified Rhythm and blues candy for the listener's ear, stripped down to the basics and for that reasons ore essentials , straight from the cotton fields of Alabama.'Runaway train" closes the album as it should, like a freight train with no brakes, ending the half an hour in furious blues rock hell.

If you're into hookers then this might be your favorite one, especially of you like your music, fast, dirty and hard.
